Prop 8 Redux: What now for marriage rights?
Andrea is co-chair of the Bayard LGBT Rustin Coalition, Northern California’s largest Black LGBT political organization. A longtime advocate in the LGBT community, she is the former Deputy Executive Director of the NAMES Project Foundation/AIDS Memorial Quilt, where she launched several key HIV/AIDS outreach and education initiatives targeting African American and South African communities.
The former Deputy Director of the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice, Andrea co-developed and directed a John F. Kennedy School of Governance Excellence in Government award winning program, and co-authored several studies on race, gender and incarceration.
Andrea also is a past Trustee of the SF Community College Board, having served with the distinction of being the youngest, as well only openly LGBT Trustee in an elected seat in the nation. She has served as Treasurer of the LGBT Caucus of the California State Democratic Party.
