I make authentic conversations happen and explain the emotional mechanics of how people connect at companies, organizations and conferences like Google, SXSWi, BlogHer, AIGA, Social Venture Network, Forum One’s Marketing & Online Communities Conference and Overlap 08.
Next up: keynote at Web 2.0 in SF, Apr. 3rd

To bring me to your gathering, contact me.

Authentic conversation leads to more connections between people and ideas.

I make authentic conversations happen at companies, organizations and conferences like Google, SXSWinteractive, BlogHer, AIGA, Social Venture Network, Forum One’s Marketing & Online Communities Conference and Overlap 08.

To bring me to your gathering, contact me.

My uniquely interactive talks often involve bringing out the best in you, other speakers and the “audience.” This means:
• you don’t have sit through another Powerpoint
• your online content is much more valuable
• speakers spend less time on preparation
• the event is as engaging as the networking in the halls

Current Talks

There are two talks that I am currently presenting. Custom topics, hosting and experiences are available upon request.

How to Tummel (Design for Conversation)

Community evolves from conversation. And an evolved community inherently evolves the conversation.

How do you create conversation for many people? How do people genuinely connect with each other and with you or your company?

Innovative comedian Heather Gold explains basic differences between presentation and conversation and the assumptions underneath each. More entertainingly (and usefully) she demonstrates these ideas by creating a great, relevant conversation in the room so that all can feel the difference.

My PDF notes on the difference between Presentation + Conversation.

55 minute presentation at Google’s Mountain View Campus Nov. 18, 2008

Authenticity is Authority, or
Business without the BS

Are people really paying attention to you? How do you command authority live and in person? How can you be more interesting than someone’s Blackberry? Be yourself. In public.

The craving for authenticity is part of the end of command/control business culture and marketing. Heather demonstrates why authenticity is the core ingredient of sustainable authority and creativity.
You’ll learn:
• how to be yourself at work,
• how to help others be authentic with you,
• how to create an environment where people can be themselves, and more creative.

Cookie

In Heather Gold’s innovative, smash-hit debut, “she sifts through the complexities of sexuality and identity with baking’s simple truths.” (Robert Avila, SFBG). Heather tells her coming-of-age story as she makes chocolate chip cookies with the audience through her own hilarious and moving exploration of the recipe.

Cookie played to sold-out rooms and critical raves, running over a year in San Francisco to audience and critical raves and at invitation at top-comedy development theatre Ars Nova (Sarah Silverman, Julia Sweeney, Judy Gold) in New York. The Oakland Tribune named Cookie Best of the Bay and Curve Magazine honoured Cookie with their National Lesbian Theatre Award. The show tours theatres and colleges across the country.

Her quick improv ability and have made her a popular emcee of events like Austin Gay Pride, and San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Garden’s Family Day.
